Emmett E. McLean retired after 20 years of service to Medical Properties Trust. He served as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Secretary at MPT, a company he also co-founded in 2003. Prior to joining MPT, McLean worked in the healthcare services industry, serving in senior financial positions.
Before his corporate career, McLean worked in investment banking and corporate finance with Dean Witter Reynolds (now Morgan Stanley) and Smith Barney (now Citigroup), handling corporate financings, public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions. He began his career in the commercial banking industry with Trust Company Bank (now Truist Bank). McLean earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from the University of Virginia.
McLean is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama, Smile-A-Mile, UAB Athletics Foundation, United Way of Central Alabama, and the Mike Slive Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Birmingham Foundation. McLean has chaired numerous charitable fundraising events in the greater Birmingham metro area.
